Math Faculty Ambassador Application

We're looking for students from all programs and years of study in the Faculty of Mathematics who are passionate about being at Waterloo! In this role, you'll represent the Faculty of Mathematics while welcoming high school students and their families, transfer students, and alumni, to name a few kinds of visitors, to campus.

Please note this application is for those ambassadors who are available for the Winter 2019 term, specifically March Break Open House, March 9, 2019. Even if you've been an ambassador before, fill out the form below. The application will close Sunday, January 20, 2019. 

There are many roles and responsibilities associated with being an ambassador, with many of them taking place during the Fall Open House, March Break Open House, and You@Waterloo Day. Here are some of the open house roles: 

Set-up and Tear-down Crew (All)

  • Set-up/tear-down tables, chairs, table cloths, booths
  • Put up/remove signs, banners, schedules
  • Prepare/clean-up balloons, ribbons, decorating, bouquets

Academic Ambassadors

Program Booth Representatives

  • Meet with students and their families to answer their questions about programs, co-op, student life, ect.
  • Share your experiences in Math at Waterloo, point guests towards session room, help professors

Tour Ambassadors

  • Meet families, introduce yourself, get started, get to know your group of visitors
  • Provide lively and informative tours of the mathematics facilities, including M3, MC, DC, and QNC
  • Answer questions that your group may have

Hospitality Ambassadors

Welcome Booth Greeters

  • Welcome guests, open doors, hand out programs, keep people away from the door
  • Direct guests to refreshments, tour booth, session room, program booths, or washrooms

Refreshment Hosts

  • Keep refreshments area well stocked with cookies and water while keeping it clean
  • Take bottles of water to speakers, program boothers, tour guides, and other volunteers as needed
  • Assist in the set-up and serving of pizza to guests at lunch time

Wayfinders

  • Help guests get to session rooms in other buildings, or to other activities across campus
  • Answer questions, discourage sitting in alleyways/stairways, help guests

Ushers/Room Managers

  • Open doors, move guests to the front and centre of the auditorium
  • Control the flow of traffic in the transition between sessions
  • Answer questions, discourage sitting in alleyways/stairways, help guests

Photographers

  • Take pictures of the event throughout the day
  • Need your own camera, previous experience with a professional camera, and meet to receive extra training
  • Note: we usually need only 1-2 photographers
