A team of University of Waterloo undergraduate students, including 6 from the Faculty of Mathematics, returned with a silver medal from the 2018 International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition in Boston.

Carbon emissions will start to dictate stock prices

Companies that fail to curb their carbon output may eventually face the consequences of asset devaluation and stock price depreciation, according to a new study out of the University of Waterloo.

The researchers further determined that the failure of companies within the emission-intensive sector to take carbon reduction actions could start negatively impacting the general stock market in as little as 10 years’ time.

Can labels on slot machines promote healthier gambling?

Professor Kevin Harrigan, Director of the Knowledge Translation Stream at Waterloo's Gambling Research Lab, and Professor Dan Brown, Director of the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science, are determined to figure out the best way to educate players about the addictive properties of slot machines and how much money they might win or lose.
