The Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) in the Office of the Dean of Math, Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo invite applications for a three-year definite-term appointment at the rank of Lecturer. A minimum of a Master’s degree in mathematics, computer science, or a related discipline is required. Candidates are expected to have teaching experience. Experience in education, outreach or enrichment activities at the secondary school level would be an asset.
The position will normally have a teaching load of four one-term courses per year in either or both of mathematics and computer science. Other responsibilities will include participation in the extensive array of CEMC activities. This includes contest preparation and administration, student and teacher workshops, and development of online resources. Successful candidates may be eligible for reappointment to additional terms, and those demonstrating outstanding performance in teaching and service may be considered eventually for an ongoing appointment as Continuing Lecturer.
The anticipated start date is 1 August 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $125,000.
The CEMC is Canada's largest and most recognized outreach organization for promoting and creating activities and materials in mathematics and computer science. The CEMC is housed within the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. It was founded in 1995 with origins dating back to the 1960s. The CEMC’s activities include 15 mathematics and computing contests with more than 265,000 registrations annually, an extensive school visiting program, a variety of on campus face-to-face workshops and conferences for students and teachers, a large suite of free online resources, and an online Master’s program aimed specifically at secondary school mathematics teachers.
