Why did you choose to study at Waterloo?

Being from BC, coming across the country for university was a huge decision for me. But the moment I had settled on Actuarial Science, the University of Waterloo leapt to one of my top choices. I knew that Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo, and in particular the Actuarial Science program is unparalleled. Having such a large student body studying math meant that I would be guaranteed to meet like-minded students with whom I could share my university experience.

Additionally, the co-op program here is very well established, and has opened up an incredible number of opportunities that I would not have had access to had I stayed at my local university.

Advice for first-year students

My advice to new students is to get involved! I know that you hear this all the time, but getting involved definitely contributes to a more fulfilling university experience. Since I have gotten more involved, I have met many more people and made many more friends than I would have had I stayed in my room and studied 24/7.

Also, participating in extracurricular activities will give you a well-deserved break from all those proofs! Even if you don't get involved directly with the math faculty, there is an abundance of clubs you can try, from Cheese Club to Hip Hop Club.
