RoboHub participates in a new docuseries on YouTube, The Age of A.I.

Human and Robot Holding Hands

How will A.I., object recognition, affective computing and machine learning change the world?  The Age of AI, an eight part documentary series hosted by Robert Downey Jr. that Talos and other researchers from the RoboHub participated in this past year, has been released and the first four episodes began airing December 18th, 2019.  The series filmed Talos and a few of their researchers over several days on campus and is narrated by Robert Downey Jr.

TMMC donates $2.1 million to U Waterloo to drive Additive Manufacturing research and engineering education

Toyota Canada helps drive innovation forward with its largest single donation to a Canadian university.  They will launch a unique undergraduate engineering innovation challenge and support a variety of student, research and outreach initiatives.  In recognition of TMMC’s financial support, a wing on the third floor of the university’s Engineering 7 building which is dedicated to faculty and student research in Additive Manufacturing, will be renamed the Toyota Additive Manufacturing Wing. The funding will also enable the Toyota Engineering Innovation Challenge which will involve a ha

Mechanical graduate students win their way to Italy


Congratulations to Devon Hartlen, Hossein Pishyar, Raphael Boulis and Bruna Do Nascimento Figueredo for their noteworthy achievement.

The Italian Technology Awards program is a competition that invites applications from graduate students attending international universities (outside of Italy) who are conducting research on an array of topics relevant to innovations and challenges facing various manufacturing sectors in their countries or globally.

Carolyn Hansson awarded Howe Memorial Lecture Award

The 2019 AIST Howe Memorial Lecture Award went to Carolyn Hansson in May, following her delivery of the Lecture at AISTech.  She was awarded the Howe Memorial Lecture “for exceptional research and technology transfer related to the integrity of infrastructure for society. Her holistic approach to investigating the corrosion of steel reinforcement in concrete has broadened the understanding of this critical aspect of construction.
