MME professor awarded the Dougal Drysdale Award for Exceptional Service

Beth Weckman, an MME professor, was recently awarded the Dougal Drysdale Award for Extraordinary Service to the International Association of Fire Safety Science in organizing the 13^th IAFSS Symposium twice. Professor Weckman organized the 2020 symposium in person and this year, 2021, virtually.

MME graduate wins the NSERC CGS-M award

Congratulations to Alexander DiPaola, who recently graduated from MME, has won an NSERC CGS-M award for his research entitled “Heat Release Rate in Under-Ventilated Compartment Fires” under the supervision of Beth Weckman at the UW Fire Research Labs.

MME research team earns the 2021 Catalyst Grant

Bronwyn Forrest, Paolo Dominelli and Beth Weckman were recently granted a 2021 Catalyst Grant from the Network for Aging Research to study specific concerns related to the impact of fire gases and smoke on the ability of elderly and mobility impaired occupants to egress from burning structures. They are one of five teams that received the 2021 Catalyst Grant this Spring.

MME PhD wins two awards for her research

PhD student in MME, Bronwyn Forrest, has won two awards, an NSERC – CGSD Award and also a Student Research Award from SFPE for her research entitled “Human Physiological Response to Fire Exposure: A Comprehensive Model”. As cross-disciplinary research, Bronwyn will complete her research at the UW Fire Research Labs under the co-supervision of Paolo Dominelli in Kinesiology and Beth Weckman in MME.
