Trip to the Canadian Light Source (CLS)

Friday, September 24, 2021 - Wednesday, September 29, 2021 (all day)

Professor Zbig Wasilewski with Trevor Blaikie and Hadiya Ma, two graduate students in the QNC-MBE Group, visited the Canadian Light Source (CLS) synchrotron facility of the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon to perform resonant X-ray diffraction (XRD) scans using the synchrotron radiation. Such XRD scans provide further information than the XRD machine in the QNC-MBE Lab. In particular, the interfaces of the superlattices structures related to the growth of quantum cascade lasers (QCL) were studied during this trip. It is a great opportunity for graduate students to learn in person at one of the greatest science facilities in Canada. Many more trips to CLS for the study of superlattice interfaces and the characterization of other material systems are to be scheduled.
