Monday, April 9, 2018

The Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA) in the United States announced today 24 LBDA Research Centers of Excellence, coordinated by the Mayo Clinic. The mandate of these centres is to provide coordinated research that supports clinical trials for Lewy Body Dementia and assist in provision of expert clinical care. As one of the most underdiagnosed dementias, the necessity of better research and clinical trials to establish a stronger clinical understanding is crucial. By establishing these centres, LBDA hopes to mobilize knowledge among the medical community, create important infrastructure, and increase supports through providing necessary resources.  Mike Koehler, the CEO of LBDA explains the importance of this initiative by “allow us to further our understanding of this disease and develop new ways care and support of the patients, families and caregivers. In addition to supporting those living with LBD, the Association's mission has always been to add to the scientific body of understanding about the disease to give hope to those living with it.”
