MADRiD: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

From what source(s) will the potential participants be recruited?

  • KW residential community.
  • Health care settings, nursing homes, etc.
  • Long-term care facilities, assisted living facilities, retirement homes.

Where will the study take place?

On campus: MADRiD involvement will in most cases take place on the University of Waterloo campus. Telephone calls, printed materials and other forms of recruitment will originate from MAREP in the Lyle Hallman Institute for Health Promotion (LHI).

Off campus: All MADRiD recruitment will take place in the community. Individual studies making use of MADRiD participants may conduct their projects off campus as per their respective ORE applications.<--break->

Will participants receive remuneration (financial, in-kind, or otherwise) for participation? 

Participants will not receive remuneration for registering with the participant pool, but participants may receive remuneration for participation in subsequent studies. MADRiD has no involvement in the remuneration process - it is the responsibility of individual researchers. However, MADRiD strongly recommends to researchers that participants are compensated.<--break->

What type of feedback can participants expect?

Feedback to participants is the responsibility of individual researchers.

MADRiD participants will receive a thank you letter as part of the follow-up package they receive from the database Coordinator.

An annual Newsletter is distributed by mail/e-mail to provide feedback and results of some of the studies to the participants.
