MUSIC 100 – UNDERSTANDING MUSIC

The styles, forms, techniques, and terminology of Western music through lectures and listening, as exemplified by great works from all eras of music history.

MUSIC 140 – POPULAR MUSIC AND CULTURE

SIMON WOOD – 7:00-9:50 Th

An examination of the styles, forms and development of 20th-century popular music. The social, commercial and technological aspects of popular music are considered.

MUSIC 270 – MUSIC THEORY I

TERRY PAYNTER – 9:30-11:20 T/Th

An introduction to the themes, sources, forms, and nature of opera through selected works from Monteverdi to Britten, and discover how drama and artistry are interpreted through music and how opera reflects society.

EXPLORE THE BALTICS: Experience the rich musical culture of song in Estonia. Every five years since 1869, Estonia has held its National Song Festival, Laulapidu. In 2019 more than 30,000 singers from around the world will arrive in Tallinn, Estonia’s capital, for several days of concerts.

  • Orchestra - Thursdays, 7:00-9:50 pm, CGR 1111 (D. Warren)
