To open our 2012-13 season members of Dark Horse, East-West’s resident ensemble, explore relationships between sound and image across time and cultures. As modern day humans, we are bombarded by thousands of images via television, cinema, video games, YouTube, and the world wide web. These images are occurring at increasingly rapid rates.  By some estimates we will view over 33 thousand billion (quadrillion) images in our lifetimes. The musicians of Dark Horse slow down these images, allowing us to explore them deeply and intimately, as well as their relationships to one another and ourselves. Thank you for joining us tonight in a very different East-West concert.

Please Turn ON Your Phones: Starting with tonight’s concert and integral to our developing of our presentations for community participation and enjoyment, please join us in an experiment. As you listen to tonight’s music feel free to use your mobile phones to take pictures (no flash please), record audio and video, and especially to give us feedback in the form of your impressions. That is, what you “see” and “experience” while listening to the music.

You may tweet your impressions directly to Dark Horse Ensemble on Twitter and Facebook during the concert. Videos can be uploaded to YouTube of course or emailed to us at “DarkHorseEnsemble@gmail.com” Also, you may write/draw or otherwise communicate your impressions with the writing pads provided. Please drop them off before you leave the hall tonight. Thank you.
