Noon Hour Concert: The Ice is Cracking Under My Feet

Wednesday, March 7, 2018 12:30 pm - 12:30 pm EST (GMT -05:00)

EVA is a trio featuring cellist Vesa Norilo, kantele player, Anna-Karin Korhonen and soprano Essi Wuorela (Rajaton), all hailing from Helsinki, Finland. Their repertoire consists of traditional Finnish folk music as well as original music composed by members of EVA. Each member of the group brings a wealth of musical experience, having studied a wide range of styles from classical to jazz and folk.

EVA’s debut recording, "Ensimmäiset seikkailut" – The First Adventures was released in May 2013. The old lyrics and poems remain strong and resonant today, though they speak of decades past. The arrangements are made with strong sense of the core of the original song. An inventive, fresh musical approach lends a contemporary edge and affords free, high-spirited playing and singing. The result: a recording of folk fusion that celebrates Finnish culture, past and present. Recording sessions for their second album are underway, for release in February 2018.
