Noon Hour Concert: Mozart & Chopin, a Hunt & a MermaideExport this event to calendar

Wednesday, November 18, 2020 — 12:30 PM EST

Heidi Wall, pianistRenowned local pianist Heidi Wall will perform the following two pieces:
"Mozart's D Major piano sonata K. 576 is his last of 18 piano sonatas. It was composed as a part of a set of six sonatas for Princess Friederike of Prussia in 1789 and is generally considered the most technically difficult. The main theme of the first movement features a horn call, and so the sonata has become known as "the Hunt". The first movement is an allegro sonata form, the second movement is an ABA and the finale is a rondo that contains some exquisitely chromatic writing in certain parts. Chopin's Third Ballade in A-Flat Major was composed in 1841. Its inspiration is thought to be a poem by Mickiewicz called Undine, which is a water nymph whose character is the inspiration for the mermaid. My teacher Stephan Sylvestre considers this Ballade to be the most stylistically French of the four ballades."                   Heidi Wall
