Noon Hour Concert: Women Music Revolutionaries

Wednesday, January 30, 2019 12:30 pm - 12:30 pm EST (GMT -05:00)

Mary Catherine Pazzano
This concert is dedicated to the female singers and singer-songwriters who have been influential both to Joni and I as artists, but also to the culture at large. For Joni and I, as female leaders in this music business, paying tribute the female musical heroes who have come before us is both an honour, and feels extremely important and relevant in this current awakening of women's voices, with #metoo and #timesup. The tide is turning, and while we must look forward, it is also important to pay tribute to the female musicians who made their mark, in times where their voices were not always valued or heard.
The concert will feature the music of seminal jazz singers Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughn and more, but also honour the singer-songwriters whose music was the feminist voice of a generation: Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and much more.
To give this music the emotional weight it deserves, we have been extremely lucky to bring in the Penderecki String Quartet as our special guests. With new string arrangements by Don Buchanan, myself, and Joni, hear songs like "Beautiful", "A Case of You", "All I Want", "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow", "How Insensitive" and more in a whole new light, with these arrangements tailored to our voices, the world-class Penderecki String Quartet, and Don Buchanan on piano.                                                               Mary Catherine Pazzano
