agenda

In partnership with the Network for Aging Research (NAR) the Symposium on Aging Research (SoAR) and student representatives from the Canadian Association on Gerontology (CAG) will be hosting a speed networking event for UW faculty and students to have an opportunity to meet others with diverse perspectives in aging research. Through a series of accelerated and structured contacts, you will have the opportunity to speak with professors from up to 10 different faculties, who are specifically interested in aging research.

1.      Social Media Networking Workshop for Graduate Students- The Centre for Career Action’s graduate career advisors will provide a workshop for participating graduate students at the start of the event. You will have a chance to learn about the importance of networking in both academic and non-academic contexts and tips on how to effectively network using professional social media platforms such as LinkedIn and Twitter.

2.      Speed Networking- Students will have an opportunity to speed network with faculty members and connect with them on applicable professional social media platforms. We will have a low ratio of students per faculty member to allow for personalized conversations; students will rotate to network with new faculty members throughout this session.

3.      Open Networking- An open networking session will be held at the end of the event for faculty members and students to connect in more depth. During this time light refreshments will be offered.

4.      Professional Head Shots- A professional photographer will be on site 2:30pm- 4:30pm to provide free professional head shots to participating graduate students. This is a great opportunity to upload a new, professional profile photo for your social media accounts!
