Kids compete in Lego League provincial qualifier at University of Waterloo

WATERLOO, Ont. (Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011) - Lego robots, along with creative thinking, problem-solving skills and teamwork, will be in action at the University of Waterloo on Sunday, Dec. 4 as 250 youngsters aged nine to 14 compete in the WE-Connect FIRST League Lego (FLL) Waterloo qualifier, co-sponsored by Waterloo Engineering.

VeloCity team to showcase student start-ups, innovative products at Demo Day

WATERLOO, Ont. (Monday, Nov. 28, 2011) - The University of Waterloo's VeloCity team will showcase the latest student start-up companies and innovative products at a special public event Wednesday, Nov. 30.

VeloCity Demo Day will be held from noon to 3 p.m. in the main foyer of the William G. Davis Computer Research Centre on the Waterloo campus.

University of Waterloo hosts launch of new book on Westmount

WATERLOO, Ont. (Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011) - An illustrated history of the local Westmount neighbourhood written by a University of Waterloo librarian will be officially launched Thursday, Nov. 24.

Susan Saunders Mavor's book, Westmount: The Tie That Binds The Twin Cities, tells the story of one of Waterloo Region's most interesting and attractive residential areas, from its origins in 1912 to present day. The invitation-only launch event, hosted by the university, will be held at 4:30 p.m in the Westmount Golf and Country Club.

New Waterloo program trains social innovators to address society's problems

WATERLOO, Ont. (Monday, Nov, 21, 2011) - A ground-breaking graduate diploma aimed at advancing Canada's capacity to respond to our most pressing social and environmental challenges will be celebrated during an official launch event at the University of Waterloo on Friday, Nov. 25.

The new Graduate Diploma in Social Innovation (gradsi.ca), which enrolled 34 multi-sector leaders from across Canada, is focusing on three key issues - aging, new comers to Canada and mental health - in its inaugural year.

Waterloo Institute of Nanotechnology hosts scientists from Japan and Canada

WATERLOO, Ont., (Monday, Nov. 21, 2011) - Some of the best scientific minds from 13 research organizations across Canada and Japan are connecting today and tomorrow at the University of Waterloo for a bi-lateral workshop in nanotechnology hosted by the Waterloo Institute of Nanotechnology.

The event is being held to strengthen and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Canada-Japan Agreement on Cooperation in Science and Technology, and to advance research projects between international collaborators.
