Royal Society of Canada names three Waterloo professors College Members

Three professors from the University of Waterloo are among the new members of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists announced today.

Members have reached a high level of achievement at an early stage of their careers. They represent the emerging generation of scholars and leaders in science and the arts in the country.

Waterloo and Thomson Reuters partner on big data innovation

Researchers from the University of Waterloo are partnering with global information company Thomson Reuters to launch a collaborative research investigation on large-scale data integration and data cleaning.

Professor Ihab F. Ilyas, Alexandra Roatis and Mina Farid from the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science will lead the project, which will create algorithms to highlight anomalies in enterprise data sets aimed at improving data quality.

Trudeau Foundation names Waterloo professor among new fellows

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation today recognized a Waterloo professor who is an expert on the economy and political situation in the Middle East with a prestigious fellowship.

Bessma Momani, a professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Waterloo, will receive $225,000 in funding over three years to support her research about Arab-Canadian youth.

Health fair to raise awareness about heart-friendly living

Members of the public will learn about the latest advances in cardiovascular research, watch a demonstration of blood flow in the brain, participate in a nutrition session and get new ideas for living a more heart-friendly life when researchers from the University of Waterloo put their work on display at an interactive health fair.
