Waterloo highest Canadian riser in prestigious world university ranking

The University of Waterloo rose into the top 200 universities in the world placing 179 in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings released today.

Waterloo’s rise in the rankings, from 251-275 a year ago, is the largest rise amongst Canadian universities in the ranking. Waterloo is among just seven Canadian universities ranked in the top 200 in the world by Times Higher Education.

Shopify CEO to speak at University of Waterloo

Media are invited to attend a fireside chat between Tobias Lütke, founder and CEO of Shopify and Michael Litt, co-founder and CEO of Vidyard, at the University of Waterloo.

Around 250 students from the University will hear two leading Canadian entrepreneurs discuss Shopify’s journey to becoming one of the country’s leading innovations and Lütke’s exciting new plans for the company.

The talk is Lütke’s first appearance at a Canadian university.

Canadian magazines miss the mark on skin cancer messages

Canadian magazines are sending women mixed messages about skin cancer and tanning, according to new University of Waterloo research.

The study, published in the Canadian Journal of Public Health and funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, found that magazines promote a tanned look and provide women with limited information on risk factors and early detection for skin cancer.

UWaterloo to welcome alumni, community for Reunion 2015

The University of Waterloo will host alumni, the community, staff and students on Saturday, October 3 in celebration of Reunion 2015. All are invited to attend a variety of activities at the Waterloo campus.

Initiative calls for research on affordable energy technologies

About 2.5 billion people around the world have no access to electricity or basic energy services, and a new initiative launched at the University of Waterloo today will establish a platform for the research and development of innovative energy technologies to reach every global citizen.

UWaterloo and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany are collaborating to seek active participation of researchers and affiliated institutions, thought leaders in the academy, civil society groups, philanthropic organizations, innovators, and government and industry leaders.
