Computing a secret, unbreakable key

What once took months by some of the world’s leading scientists can now be done in seconds by undergraduate students thanks to software developed at the University of Waterloo’s Institute for Quantum Computing, paving the way for fast, secure quantum communication.

Researchers at the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) at the University of Waterloo developed the first available software to evaluate the security of any protocol for Quantum Key Distribution (QKD).

Waterloo lecturer recognized with award for excellence in teaching

A continuing lecturer at the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Engineering is the recipient of a national award for innovative teachers.

Carol Hulls is a winner of the 2016 Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) / Brightspace Innovation Award in Teaching and Learning. She is a founding member of the Engineering IDEAs Clinic at Waterloo. The initiative incorporates hands-on activities into all engineering programs at the University.

Respected Waterloo professor, Larry Smith, will speak at a sold out special event on Tuesday celebrating the launch of his new book called No Fears, No Excuses: What You Need to Do to Have a Great Career.

Governor General to meet with Waterloo students on innovation, leadership

His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will visit the Conrad Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology Centre at the University of Waterloo tomorrow. He will be in Waterloo to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Accelerator Centre (AC) of which he was a founding patron.

The Governor General will meet with students in the Master of Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology (MBET) program and speak to them about the importance of innovation, and their role as future leaders in Canada.
