New guidelines may reduce heart failure complications in long-term care homes

Communication lapses during shift changes, limited staff training, and inadequate specialist support can lead to misdiagnosis and complications in long-term care (LTC) residents with heart failure, according to a new study from the University of Waterloo and the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging.

Waterloo’s Faculty of Mathematics launches anniversary celebrations

Faculty members who were at the University of Waterloo for the start of the Faculty of Mathematics will share stories of its early days during a special event to launch the Faculty’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

The Faculty of Mathematics at Waterloo — the world’s largest math faculty— will host a first-decade panel on Wednesday to kick off a year of events.

UWaterloo is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

Government of Canada commits $32.6 million for new Waterloo Engineering building

The federal government today announced it will contribute $32.6 million for the construction of a state-of-the-art engineering building at the University of Waterloo.  Minister of Small Business and Tourism Bardish Chagger, MP for Waterloo, announced the funding under a program to update research and innovation infrastructure.

Wastewater treatment upgrades result in major reduction of intersex fish

Upgrades to a wastewater treatment plant along Ontario’s Grand River, led to a 70 per cent drop in fish that have both male and female characteristics within one year and a full recovery of the fish population within three years, according to researchers at the University of Waterloo.

University of Waterloo awarded funding to expand access to the Internet

Research at the University of Waterloo that has the potential to affordably connect billions of new users to the Internet via intelligent antennas will receive $6.1 million in joint funding from C-COM Satellite Systems Inc. (C-COM) and the federal government.
