A statement on the U.S. executive order on immigration and travel

Globally and here at home, universities are strengthened by the exchange of talent, ideas and experience from students, faculty, researchers and staff.  The original principle of academic freedom encompassed thought, expression and geography. 

Diversity is a strength of this university and of our country. Together, with universities across Canada, we will continue to welcome students, faculty and staff from around the world including those seeking refuge from violence and injustice.

Study reveals evidence that the universe is a hologram

The first observational evidence that the universe could be a hologram has been published in the journal Physical Review Letters.  The international study may lead to new beliefs on the Big Bang Theory and on quantum gravity, one of theoretical physics’ most profound problems.

The Murray Alzheimer Research and Education Program (MAREP) at the University of Waterloo will host a free public lecture and panel discussion tomorrow on developing Ontario’s dementia strategy. January is Alzheimer Awareness Month.

New guidelines may reduce heart failure complications in long-term care homes

Communication lapses during shift changes, limited staff training, and inadequate specialist support can lead to misdiagnosis and complications in long-term care (LTC) residents with heart failure, according to a new study from the University of Waterloo and the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging.

Waterloo’s Faculty of Mathematics launches anniversary celebrations

Faculty members who were at the University of Waterloo for the start of the Faculty of Mathematics will share stories of its early days during a special event to launch the Faculty’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

The Faculty of Mathematics at Waterloo — the world’s largest math faculty— will host a first-decade panel on Wednesday to kick off a year of events.

UWaterloo is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
