Rivers swollen with spring run-off and choked with ice are causing floods in several parts of Canada, as a long winter in some areas gives way to warmer spring temperatures. In British Columbia entire towns are being evacuated, as conditions worsen.

The University of Waterloo has an expert available to speak on the severe flooding affecting parts of the country.

Blair Feltmate -  Head of the Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation in University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Environment.

“Flooding is the elephant in the room for Canada – it’s costing Canadians the most of all extreme weather events. The flooding we’re seeing across the country is a new normal that will only worsen in the face of climate change. It emphasizes we need to address our adaptation gap and prepare communities for the floods yet to come”.

- Blair Feltmate

Blair Feltmate leads the team at the Intact Centre which works with homeowners, communities, governments and businesses to identify and reduce risks associated with extreme weather, namely flooding. Blair is Chair of Environment Canada’s Panel on Climate Adaptation and Resilience Results and was a keynote speaker for climate adaptation at the recent G20 meetings in Argentina.
