Professor Steve Manske from the University of Waterloo is available to speak to the media on the results of the national Youth Smoking Survey, which Health Canada released yesterday. The report showed an overall decline in smoking rates among youth.

Also a senior scientist with the Propel Centre for Population Health Impact at Waterloo, Professor Manske led the national network of scientists and staff who implemented the YSS on behalf of Health Canada.

“We can celebrate the continued slow decline in cigarette use. But, one youth who smokes is one too many,” said Professor Manske. “Tobacco use, including fruit- and candy-flavoured products, continues to be the leading cause of death in Canada. Understanding levels of tobacco use among our youth and the reasons they use these deadly products is a key step to becoming tobacco-free.”
