King is the recipient of the 2014 Governor General's Literary Award for Fiction for his work, The Back of the Turtle. Among his other award-winning works of fiction and non-fiction are The Red Power Murders: A Dreadful Water Mystery, The Inconvenient Indian: A Curious Account of Native People in North America, and Green Grass, Running Water.

UWaterloo's premier invitational public lecture series since 1970, the Hagey Lectures aim to challenge, stimulate and enrich all members of the University and surrounding community. The University and the Faculty Association of the University of Waterloo co-sponsor this free event.
