Waterloo hosts diplomatic panel on dictatorship and democracy
The consuls general of Poland, France, and Germany will take part in a panel discussion at the University of Waterloo next week to discuss European struggles for democracy since World War I
The diplomats will present their countries’ perspectives on recent history and current developments.
The panel, 100 Years since WWI: Dictatorship and Democracy in an Age of Extremes, is open to the public. The discussion will offer commentary and reflections on a century of extremes, including the rise of Italian fascism and Soviet communism, the world economic crisis of the 1930s, the rise of Nazi power leading to World War II, the fall of the Iron Curtain, the Cold War and peaceful revolutions.
The Waterloo Centre for German Studies is hosting the event in co-operation with the departments of French, History, and Germanic and Slavic Studies at UWaterloo. For more information, please visit the Waterloo Centre for German Studies.
