Waterloo hosts workshop to encourage interest in math among young women
About 40 young women in grades 9 and 10 will come to the University of Waterloo this week to take part in the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing’s annual Think About Math workshop, where they will explore exciting career opportunities available in the field of mathematics
Attendees have the opportunity to meet positive female role models, gain hands-on experience and meet other students their age from across Ontario with a shared interest in mathematics. Female graduates of Waterloo’s Faculty of Mathematics will take part in a mathematics career fair to answer questions about education, careers and experiences in the field of mathematics.

In May 2015, the University of Waterloo accepted an invitation from the UN Women’s HeForShe campaign to participate in their Impact 10x10x10 framework alongside governments, leading universities, and global businesses. As a result, we continue to be dedicated to increasing female student participation in STEM outreach experiences and academic careers to build the pipeline of future female leaders in traditionally male-dominated disciplines.
