Humans team up with AI to build new neural networks

Waterloo Engineering researchers have combined the skills of humans and the capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) to develop a new type of compact neural networks.

The networks are suited to run on smartphones, tablets, and other embedded and mobile devices for tasks such as image classification and object segmentation.

Waterloo researchers unearth biases in visual dataset

Engineering researchers at the University of Waterloo have unearthed inherent gender and age biases buried in a popular image dataset used to train artificial intelligence (AI) systems around the world.

The discovery will help researchers find ways to rebalance the data so it better reflects demographic diversity, ultimately paving the way for more accurate AI models.
