Eye care professionals (ECPs) have to juggle demands on their time and may not always have opportunities to seek continuing education via peer-reviewed journals or attendance at scientific conferences.

ContactLensUpdate.com is an educational resource developed and maintained by Centre for Contact Lens Research, recently renamed the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE) to more accurately reflect the breadth of its reach. In addition to conducting clinical and bioscience research, CORE is dedicated to providing education for eye care practitioners worldwide. Contact Lens Update.com is its flagship project.

Immersed in the newest contact lens-related research on a daily basis, with worldwide scientific connections, researchers at CORE are in an ideal position to sift through research findings and present them in a highly accessible way to those working on the front lines. CORE leverages this knowledge and professional network via ContactLensUpdate.com to provide eye care practitioners with up-to-date research-based information, by:

  • Using its specialized knowledge to determine which current research is most pertinent to practitioners;
  • Seeking contributions from its worldwide network of researchers and educators, including editorials, literature reviews and conference posters;
  • Reviewing contributions not only for scientific content, but to ensure that they are written in a way that speaks directly to clinicians;
  • Using its knowledge of current research to produce practical resources, including research summaries and patient handouts that facilitate effective communication between clinicians and their patients.

Previous themes have included:

  • A summary and review of the Tear Film & Ocular Society’s report on its Dry Eye Workshop (DEWS II).
  • Ocular pain and sensation.
  • The significance of contact lens lab measurements.
  • Slowing the progression of pediatric myopia.
  • Rethinking contact lens deposits.

ContactLensUpdate.com is an open-access website which is accessed each year by more than 5,000 clinicians worldwide.
