The School of Optometry and Vision Science, University of Waterloo, provides the only English optometric training in Canada leading to an accredited Doctor of Optometry degree. The School of Optometry and Vision Science held a retirement celebration for Dr. Murray Turnour on Tuesday, August 29th. Dr. Turnour has provided leadership and passionate support for the International Optometric Bridging Program (IOBP) over the past 5 years, in addition to teaching as a lecturer for the School, beginning in 1975. From 1975 – 1982, he was a Clinical Instructor and then continued on as an associate professor in undergraduate teaching, delivering a course in optometric jurisprudence to optometry students.

On Monday, August 21, the U.S. will see its first full solar eclipse spanning from coast to coast in 99 years, and the Optometric community has been actively working to raise awareness about the potential retinal damage that can happen without using safe techniques to view and photograph the eclipse.

Join us as the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Université de Montréal École d'Optométrie commemorate the 60th anniversary of the University of Waterloo and the 50th anniversary of the University of Waterloo School of Optometry.
The conference, including dinner, will be free for graduate students in vision sciences and for optometry residents in Canada. There will be a modest fee for faculty, alumni and other attendees attending the Friday dinner and dance.
