This month's seminar feature is ocular surface and we are honoured to invite special guest speaker Dr. Carolyn G. Begley from Indiana University to discuss her knowledge of the topic with us.
The next presentation for this year's TPA Lecture Series will take place on Wednesday, October 29th. Dr. Hugh Jellie will present a lecture entitled, "New Trends and Innovation in Refractive Surgery (LASIK)".
All third and fourth year students, graduate students, faculty and staff are invited to attend a light dinner at 5:30 p.m., with the lecture following at 6:00 p.m. in the Barb & Jacob Sivak Lecture Theatre (OPT 347).
On Wednesday October 22, 2014, the 4th annual Case Showcase will run at the University of Waterloo, School of Pharmacy in Kitchener. This event is run by the Interprofessional Educators Collaborative (IPEC) of Waterloo-Wellington (see the Case Showcase flyer for further event details and parking instructions). Student teams from optometry, pharmacy, medicine, social work and other health programs in the area will present cases to an audience of health students and faculty.
The event will run from 5:30pm to 8:30pm and there will be food provided.

On the evening of Friday September 26th you are invited to the third annual Dining in the Dark fundraiser! This is a unique culinary experience where you will be served a delicious dinner while blindfolded. All proceeds raised go to Optometry Giving Sight providing eye care programs, vision centers and training in developing countries. Our first research seminar of the series will focus on the topic of ocular drug delivery and we are honoured to invite our guest speaker, Dr. Vladimir Bantseev from Genentech Inc. to share his knowledge on the subject.

The 2014 Vision Science Graduate Student Research Conference will be a full day of talks on Monday, April 22nd, and a half day on Tuesday, April 23rd, resuming at 3:30pm for the conference Keynote lecture and reception.

The Future of Private Practice – Enhancing Vision for Life
During this one hour course, Prof. Nolan focuses on the role of nutrition for vision and age related blindness. Prof. Nolan examines the importance of carotenoids for visual performance and how it can reduce the risk of Macular Degeneration.
Allergan has partnered with the School of Optometry and Vision Science to provide a Glaucoma Rounds Lecture Series wherein an expert in the field provides a lecture, and a case format is then used to springboard discussion. These are 2 hour sessions with a light dinner provided beforehand at 6:00pm. Dr. Murray Fingeret will provide our first 2014 lecture entitled Glaucoma Progression

The University of Waterloo Sports Vision Club invites you to a seminar entitled, Sports and the Visual System: Innovations in Diagnosis, Monitoring and Training.

The uWaterloo Optometry Student Society (UWOSS) will be hosting their annual Student Skit Night. The event will take place on Saturday, March 22nd, at Bingemans in Kitchener. Doors will open at roughly 5:15pm, and the show will run from approximately 6:00 - 10:30/11:00pm.
Tickets will be available from Wednesday, March 12th until Tuesday, March 18th, from 12:30-1:30 in the School cafeteria next to the Eye Opener Cafe. The cost of one ticket is $15.
