Increased use of scleral lenses for a wide variety of indications has precipitated heightened interest in defining outcomes of the use of these devices in the management of corneal irregularity, ocular surface disease, and refractive error. Emerging data on outcomes of scleral lens wear provides information on potential risks and benefits of scleral lens wear for both patients and clinicians, and informs clinical decisions regarding their prescription and management. In this presentation, published literature regarding visual and physiological outcomes of scleral lens wear will be reviewed, along with the impact of scleral lenses on patients’ quality of life. Reported complications associated with scleral lens wear will also be summarized. Potential areas for future research will be identified.
