The Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) has conducted two prior international, consensus building workshops; the Dry Eye WorkShop (DEWS) and the Meibomian Gland Dysfunction Workshop (MGD). In 2012 TFOS initiated the process of conducting a similar workshop to investigate the issue of contact lens discomfort (CLD), an important issue for both patients and practitioners. This workshop included 79 experts in the field.
Congratulations to Professor Thomas Freddo, from the Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science, who has been re-appointed to serve another term as Consultant to the US Food and Drug Administration's Ophthalmic Devices Panel of the Medical Device Advisory Committee. This Committee is responsible for review of all applications seeking FDA approval of new medical devices in the USA, including IOLs and contact lenses and ophthalmic surgical devices.
A heart-felt congratulations goes out to the 2013 Optometry Rack Pack, who raised over $18,000 in support of breast cancer research through the CIBC Run For the Cure. This is the team’s inaugural year, and they were the 3rd highest fundraising team for the Kitchener-Waterloo area!
