Optometry Clinic at the School of Optometry and Vision Science wins best optometrist category in the Waterloo Record's 2013 Reader Award!

The Optometry Clinic at the University of Waterloo, School of Optometry and Vision Science have won The Waterloo Record's Reader Award for best Optometrist, and this is the third year in a row!

Congratulations to all those who work in our clinics!

Centre for Contact Lens Research contributes to the Contact Lens Discomfort Workshop

The Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) has conducted two prior international, consensus building workshops; the Dry Eye WorkShop (DEWS) and the Meibomian Gland Dysfunction Workshop (MGD). In 2012 TFOS initiated the process of conducting a similar workshop to investigate the issue of contact lens discomfort (CLD), an important issue for both patients and practitioners. This workshop included 79 experts in the field.

Thomas Freddo re-appointed to US Food and Drug Administration's Ophthalmic Devices Panel

Congratulations to Professor Thomas Freddo, from the Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science, who has been re-appointed to serve another term as Consultant to the US Food and Drug Administration's Ophthalmic Devices Panel of the Medical Device Advisory Committee. This Committee is responsible for review of all applications seeking FDA approval of new medical devices in the USA, including IOLs and contact lenses and ophthalmic surgical devices.

Congratulations to the 2013 Optometry Rack Pack and the CIBC Run for the Cure

A heart-felt congratulations goes out to the 2013 Optometry Rack Pack, who raised over $18,000 in support of breast cancer research through the CIBC Run For the Cure. This is the team’s inaugural year, and they were the 3rd highest fundraising team for the Kitchener-Waterloo area!
