In mid-October, hundreds of the world’s foremost eye care professionals, researchers, students and industry leaders created a mural at the American Academy of Optometry’s annual meeting in Chicago, celebrating the launch of the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE).

Play it safe, if contact lenses are part of this year's Halloween costume

Thinking about using cosmetic lenses to turn you into a monster, alien or cat for Halloween?  The Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO) and the University of Waterloo’s Centre for Contact Lens Research (CCLR) based at the School of Optometry and Vision Science want Canadians to make sure that trick isn’t permanent, and encourage Canadians to be aware of the dangers of unregulated cosmetic lenses, which have in the past resulted in serious eye damage.

Academy 2017 attendees invited to co-create mural to celebrate new brand for Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE)

When doors opened on October 11th for the exhibit hall at Academy 2017, in Chicago, attendees had the chance to literally leave their mark at the meeting. In celebration of the launch of its new brand, the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE) commissioned Los Angeles-based artist John Park to co-create a massive 12-foot x 8-foot acrylic mural depicting the complexity and wonder of the eye and sight.

For nearly three decades, the world’s optometry and ophthalmology communities have partnered with the Centre for Contact Lens Research (CCLR) at the University of Waterloo’s School of Optometry and Vision Science on pioneering studies. Beginning in January 2018, the organization will adopt a new name; the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE).
