Dr. John Flanagan receives over $850,000 in funding to study Ocular Biomechanics and Glaucoma

Dr. Dr John FlanaganFlanagan received the five year funding grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).  With co-principal investigator Jeremy Sivak (yes, that is Dr. Jake Sivak’s son), they will use the grant to specifically research “Ocular Biomechanics and Glaucoma: Finite Element Modeling of the Optic Nerve’s Response to Biomechanical Insult and it’s Role in Astrocyte Activation.”  The end of this five year study will represent over 30 years of continuous CIHR funding, an outstanding achievement for optometry.  Dr. Flanagan is internationally recognized for his research and is current President of the Optometric Glaucoma Society.  The School and our students continually benefit from his expertise and knowledge.  We would like to congratulate Dr. Flanagan for his continuous research success!
