The School of Optometry and Vision Science is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Ben Thompson as an Associate Professor with tenure. Dr. Thompson took up his position on May 1st, and arrives at the School from an academic position in the Department of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He is no stranger to Canada, having worked at Queen’s University from 2002-2004, and a post-doctoral fellowship at McGill University from 2006-2008.
Dr. Thompson’s research is concerned with human visual cortex development and plasticity, particularly in promoting plasticity to improve outcomes for patients with brain-based visual disorders. This has led to an interest in amblyopia, and to the development of two new and highly promising approaches to treatment.
