Optometry student Joanne Qiao presents at the President’s Reception Second-year Optometry student Joanne Qiao was one of the presenters at the University of Waterloo President’s Reception on October 29. The Reception is an annual event to thank Circle donors and let them hear, first-hand, the impact of their gifts to the University through the stories of outstanding students.

Joanne, who completed her MSc in Vision Science before entering the Optometry program, is a past recipient of the Desmond Fonn Contact Lens Research Award.

In her presentation, Joanne spoke about how the award furthered her studies and eventually led her to co-found OcuBlink, a startup which recently won Velocity funding for its innovative work in in-vitro eye models for ophthalmic product testing.
