In 2013, President and Vice-Chancellor, Feridun Hamdullahpur, released the University of Waterloo’s Strategic Plan 2013: A Distinguished Past – A Distinctive Future. At the core of this plan is a goal for the University of Waterloo to be recognized as one of the most innovative universities in the world.
Our Faculty of Science is also pursuing its own Faculty wide goals and objectives as set out in its Strategic Plan 2013-18, which, pursued to fruition, positions the Faculty of Science as a global leader for scientific teaching and research and as a preferred destination for those seeking to engage in world-class discovery.
As part of the University of Waterloo’s commitment to strategic and operational planning at all levels – a commitment shared by the Dean of Science, Dr. Bob Lemieux – I launched a strategic planning exercise within the WOVS in January 2017. This exercise will provide guidance to the future development of our School to 2022 and beyond.
A Strategic Planning Steering Committee (SPSC) has been established to assist WOVS to set strategic directions, identify goals and define objectives aligned with University priorities; identify strengths that the School will pursue over the next five years; and provide a framework for the development of implementation plans and measures of performance.
A Strategic Planning Executive Committee (SPEC), consisting of a subset of SPSC members, has been meeting over the past two months to establish an overall planning framework. This Committee will facilitate the work of the SPSC between meetings, and will provide feedback and guidance to the secretariat and our consultant, Diana Royce, to support the planning process.
There will be numerous opportunities for engagement and I look forward to your participation in, and contributions to, this important process, which will shape the future of WOVS!
