We are honoured to invite Postdoctoral Fellow Sabina Paglialunga speak in the Pharmacy Research Seminar Series.
Visitors from main campus and those external to Waterloo are welcome.
Please RSVP to sarah.rae@uwaterloo.ca.
Dr. Paglialunga’s research focuses on understanding the cellular mechanisms influencing whole-body glucose homeostasis, type 2 diabetes and obesity. Dr. Paglialunga joined the School of Pharmacy in 2014, following completion of a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department of Human Health and Nutritional Science at the University of Guelph where she specialized in mitochondrial redox biology in the context of health and disease. Her first Postdoctoral Fellowship was in the Muscle Metabolism and Diabetes Research Group at Maastricht University, the Netherlands where she examined the interaction between skeletal muscle mitochondrial dysfunction, ectopic fat accumulation and insulin resistance. Dr. Paglialunga completed her Ph.D. in Dr. Katherine Cianflone in the Department of Biochemistry at McGill University, examining the role of Acylation Stimulating Protein, an anabolic adipose tissue hormone. Under the mentorship of Dr. Jamie Joseph, her current research is examining regulators of islet secretion.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
