Last year we ran our first virtual CE Saturday event, and it was a huge success! This year we continue the tradition with another morning of inspiring and informative talks.

So please, join us for sixth annual Waterloo Pharmacy CE Saturday – it’s a great opportunity to connect with former classmates, faculty, and staff while hearing about the latest hot topics in pharmacy practice.

Registration is free and includes a half-day of continuing education on current and emerging trends in the pharmacy world.

Keynote: Zubin Austin presents "Finding Flow: The psychology of engagement in pharmacy practice"

Zubin Austin smiling

Zubin Austin BScPhm, MBA, MISc, PhD, FCAHS is Professor, Murray Koffler Chair in Management, and the Academic Director of the Centre for Practice Excellence at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy and the Institute for Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation – Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, Canada.  His research focuses on the professional and personal development of the health care workforce.  In 2017, in recognition of the global impact of his research, he was installed as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, one of the highest honours for health researchers in Canada.  He is also the only University of Toronto professor ever to have received both the President’s Teaching Award for sustained excellence in education, and the President’s Research Impact Award for the societal significance of his research.  He has also received the Lyman Award from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy on two separate occasions.  He has been named undergraduate Professor of the Year by students 20 times.

Catherine Nolin

Catherine Nolin graduated from Laurentian University with an honours degree in Biochemistry before completing a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at the University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy. She is very proud to have been a student of the Van Guard class, Rx2011, and is currently an Associate/Owner and pharmacist at two Shoppers Drug Marts in Sudbury, Ontario. She is a wife and mother of two beautiful children, four and six years old. 

Jeannine Oliver

Jeannine Oliver is the owner of Kortright Pharmacy, a Guardian banner store in Guelph, Ontario. She purchased the Pharmacy in 2019 after working as the Designated Manager for five years. During her time at Kortright Pharmacy, she has developed trusting relationships with her patients and offers a variety of services to maintain and improve their health. By focusing on the patient as an individual and collaborating with other health care professionals, she and her team offer a customized pharmacy experience. This personalized service is valued by patients and her focus on the highest quality of service has led to growth. When not at her Pharmacy, Jeannine enjoys spending time with family and pets, kayaking on the Grand River or at their cottage on Lake Huron.

Ben Austin

Ben Austin is a pharmacist and co-owner of Ingersoll Pharmasave in Ingersoll Ontario. After completing his undergraduate degree in Health Studies at the University of Waterloo, Ben went on to complete his Pharmacy degree at Waterloo’s School of Pharmacy. After graduating in 2011, Ben worked as a staff pharmacist at Ingersoll Pharmasave and as a relief pharmacist throughout Southwestern Ontario. Along with fellow classmate Chris Hartman, Ben joined the ownership of Ingersoll Pharmasave in 2016 as a junior partner and became a senior partner in 2020. Since 2017, Ben has been on the board of directors at the Oxford Country Community Health Centre. Ben currently lives in London Ontario with his wife Stephanie and four children - Kenton, Mackenna, Tessa, and Theodore.

Donnie Edwards

Donnie Edwards co-owns Boggio & Edwards IDA, a specialty compounding pharmacy in Ridgeway, Ontario. His focus is on pain management, women’s health and addiction services. Donnie is a University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy Regional Clinical Coordinator, Niagara and an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor. He is currently a board member of the Ontario Pharmacists Association and a member of the National Advisory Council of McKesson Canada. For the past three decades, Donnie has worked in community pharmacy. He has developed a unique practice, providing his patients with innovative services and seminars on multiple health-related issues. Donnie graduated from the University of Toronto in 1988 with a degree in pharmacy. He lives with his wife Sheila in Port Colborne where he raised his three daughters. 

Anthony Amadio and Kim Chvala present "Grand Rounds: Interesting Cases from the Field"

Anthony Amadio

Anthony Amadio is a 2011 UW School of Pharmacy graduate and currently the inpatient Pharmacy Manager at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener. He has previously worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the intensive care unit at Kelowna General Hospital. Upon graduation from UW he completed a one year hospital residency at Mount Sinai in Toronto, Ontario before moving to Vancouver, BC to begin the Doctor of Pharmacy Program at the University of British Columbia. After graduating from UBC in 2014, Anthony moved to Kelowna and began his clinical practice.  Anthony previously held a Clinical Instructor position in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UBC and is now a sessional lecturer with the UW School of Pharmacy.

Kim Chvala

After finishing her BScPhm at UW, Kim Chvala started working in long-term care pharmacy as a Clinical Consultant Pharmacist. She worked in LTC for seven years, obtained her BCGP and Bridging PharmD, then made the transition to New Vision FHT as a Clinical Pharmacist. She has previously TA'd and lectured for the geriatric elective, and is a preceptor for 4th year UW pharmacy students. She also worked casually in a community pharmacy on weekends for seven years. Kim is also a mom to a toddler and a dog mom, and enjoys playing sports and outdoor adventures in her spare time.
