This December two School of Pharmacy students received the first-ever La Roche-Posay Dermatology Contest award. Taylor Gelinas and Kristi Butt are senior pharmacy students who both share a passion for community practice and an interest in supporting patients with dermatological conditions.

Ontario expanding the number of vaccines available at pharmacies

On December 1, Ontario Minister of Health and Long Term Care Eric Hoskins announced that pharmacists will be able to administer vaccines to protect against 13 preventable diseases. Examples include Hepatitis A and B, typhoid, rabies, Herpes Zoster (Shingles) and Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

In 2015, an estimated 2000 Canadians died from opioid overdoses. More are expected in 2016. It’s undeniable that Canada is in the midst of an opioid overdose crisis.

It’s National Addictions Awareness Week in Canada and the Dr. Kelly Grindrod at the School of Pharmacy is spreading the word about the opioid addiction and the role pharmacists can play in helping to save lives.
