At its meeting yesterday, the Ontario University Quality Council accepted the positive recommendation of its Appraisal Committee regarding the proposed PhD program in Pharmacy at the University of Waterloo.
The PhD program, referred to by the Quality Council as an "innovative program", will allow expansion of the graduate program and indeed the research being undertaken within the School of Pharmacy.
Tarek Mohamed, a PhD candidate in the laboratory of Dr Praveen Nekkar, and Wesseem Osman, an MSc candidate in the same laboratory, have both received Young Investigator Scholarships from the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF). The awards will be presented to Tarek and Wes at the 7th Annual Drug Discovery for Neurodegeneration Conference in San Francisco in February.
On Thursday, January 10, 2013 the class of 2016 was welcomed into the pharmacy profession at the traditional White Coat Ceremony. Students, joined by their family and friends, heard from members of the university and the professional pharmacy community. Marcus Walz , Society of Pharmacy Students’ president, and Heather Foley representing Waterloo Pharmacy alumni also provided words of welcome and encouragement.
