Dr. Carla Fehr, When Good Intentions Go Bad: Exploitation of Diverse Practitioners in Research CommunitiesExport this event to calendar

Friday, February 3, 2017 — 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM EST

Increasing diversity in research communities can result in the production of more rigorous, creative, and useful knowledge. However, it is likely that actions communities take to improve diversity will result in the exploitation of diverse researchers. In this talk I demonstrate how increasing diversity can be exploitative, argue that these sorts of exploitative relationships undermine the benefits that can result from improved diversity, and consider how to create a non-exploitative research environment.
