My current research project focuses on the ethics of drug policy. Many arguments about drugs and drug policy implicitly assume an account of both the nature and the harms of addiction. My project aims to unpack these assumptions, with the aim of contributing to a more just and ethical approach to drug policy.

Judy was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1934. She received a BA from Swarthmore in 1955, and her MA and Ph.D. from Yale. Her 1963 dissertation was titled A Study of the Rationality in Kant’s Critique of Aesthetic Judgment.
Distinguished Professor Emeritus Angus Kerr-Lawson died late June 2011 shortly after his daughters accepted the honour of Distinguished Professor Emeritus on his behalf at the spring convocation.
Former member of the Department of Philosophy, Anne Minas, died late September 2015 at the age of 78.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
