This course offers an analysis, from the standpoint of professional ethics, of moral and legal issues which are important and relevant to engineers, and to those in similar fields (such as software and computer science).
These issues include the social responsibility of engineers; conflicts of interest; intellectual property issues; codes of conduct; corporate responsibility and governance; the ethics of whistle-blowing; environmental- and stakeholder impact issues; end-user safety- and privacy issues; morally acceptable levels of risk; and the moral- and social implications of technological development in all its forms.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
