Dr. Brady is interested in theoretical and experimental aspects of gravitation and gravitational-wave astronomy.
I will briefly describe the discovery of GW170817, a neutron star merger in NGC4993, and the multi-messenger observations that cover from ~100 s before the merger through to the present day. After that, I will discuss what we have learned so far, what questions remain under investigation, and what the future holds for gravitational-wave astronomy and multi-messenger observations.
The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land promised to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Indigenous Initiatives Office.
