Performing Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) to a satellite has been a major area of study for some time. The benefits of global quantum cryptography schemes are numerous and satellite implementations are seen as one of the most practical ways to achieve this goal. This talk will give a brief introduction into QKD as well as the proposed method of implementation, and will proceed to discuss many of the technological advances made by teams at the Institute for Quantum Computing which will someday allow for satellite QKD.
The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Indigenous Initiatives Office.
