Senior Teaching Fellow recognized for unique teaching philosophy

At the Centre for Teaching Excellence, Rohan Jayasundera is recognized for the dedication he shows to his instruction, and the dedication he expects from his students.

“Every instructor,” he says, “has to find a teaching style that suits his or her personality.” Still, if one is looking for a role model, Rohan Jayasundera is hard to beat.

Quantum physics leads Canada Research Chair announcements at Waterloo

Roger Melko and Kevin Resch from the Department of Physics and Astronomy have been named Tier 2 Canada Research Chairs by the Government of Canada for their work in quantum physics.

“Quantum research is a strategic priority for the University of Waterloo and the research happening here has the potential for global impact,” says Feridun Hamdullahpur, President and Vice-Chancellor of Waterloo.

This year, at the CUPC

The Canadian Undergraduate Physics Conference (CUPC, https://cupc.ca/) is an annual conference for undergraduate physics students to share their research experiences with their peers, and to learn about the array of research opportunities awaiting them.

A delegation of our own undergraduates presented talks at the conference in Hamilton, October 17-20.

Black Holes and galaxies in symbiotic coexistence

In an article entitled Feedback on Galaxy Formation published in the September 6 edition of Science, Prof. Brian McNamara explains how supermassive black holes located in the nuclei of galaxies regulate the growth of their host galaxies and themselves.
