Lei Yang
Lei Yang was awarded a 2019 Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship. This three-year scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate both leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies. Up to 166 scholarships are awarded each year, divided evenly between three federal granting agencies. Selection criteria value academic excellence, research potential, and leadership.

Lei is a PhD candidate in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, working with Anton Burkov. Her research proposal - using duality to investigate the effects of interactions between electrons in topological quantum materials - may have application to the increase in speed and miniaturization of semiconductor electronic devices.
