The position of Teaching Fellow was created by the Provost to promote, enhance and support teaching excellence and innovation in each of the Faculties. Rather than have a single individual provide our top-down leadership in teaching, we chose to create a team of Fellows, one from each Department and School, led by a Senior Teaching Fellow who will guide efforts to improve teaching and learning in the Faculty of Science.
Rohan Jayasundera, of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, has been appointed as our Senior Teaching Fellow. He will work closely with Jonathan Witt (Biology), Carey Bissonnette (Chemistry), Brewster Conant Jr. (Earth and Environmental Sciences), Wing-Ki Liu (Physics and Astronomy) and Eric Schneider (Pharmacy) to develop and support instructor success in the classroom or lab (including online learning environments) and to share teaching innovations. The appointment of an Optometry Fellow is forthcoming.
A communication from the Dean of Science on Friday names a team of teaching fellows in the faculty. We look forward to the positive impact this will have for our students.
The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Indigenous Initiatives Office.
