Inductor Coils

Photograph of inductor coils

Apparatus: Inductor; coils, magnets, galvanometer and alligator clips.

Description:
Demonstrates that current is induced in a coil by flux in a magnetic field. Connect the 6V dry cell to the inductor. Sparks are generated between the two wires.
Alternatively, connect a coil to the terminals of the galvanometer, move a magnet through the coil. The needle on the galvanometer will oscillate, amplitude and speed of which depends on speed of magnet through the coil.
